I have been a few times at lunchtime with colleagues on weekdays. Never too busy. Everything we tried (I recall the Arbroath smokies and simple fish'n'chips) was nice and arrived in good time. Prices are reasonable. Tables rather small if you, like us, want to make notes during a working lunch (but not a big problem). Not recommended if you are after a table with a view as below street level. We always found nice waiters.

This is a review for takeaway not sit in. Fish and chips and a sausage supper after a long shift at work were the order of the day . Give your order over when u enter , join the queue and wait till your order is freshly cooked . Fresh food not fast food as they say , worth the wait . Plenty chips, crispy batter on lovely white fresh haddock and the usual chippy sausage in batter very tasty. Gets busy and sometimes people get fraught if they've to wait longer than 1 minute for their food. If you want fayre that's ready to go and been sitting in a hot cabinet drying out and lukewarm chips then don't come here as its all cooked to order, just how i like it . Lots of different types if fish you can order to be cooked how you prefer, dressed, undressed, in a salad , in a bun very good choice .
We were looking for a quick bite in St Andrews and stumbled upon this restaurant. So glad we did. Lovely food in good quantities.
The BEST Fish and Chips!Our daughter, who went to St Andrews university, told us that Tailend has the best fish and chips. She was right! The batter was like tempura, not the standard heavy beer batter, so the fish was light and crispy. The chips were perfect, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. Tarter sauce was good. They had some interesting gin cocktails on the menu, served with frozen fruits, frozen hot peppers and other fun items.
